Becky and Bec met fifteen years ago at G42 Leadership Academy in Spain. Becky returned to the US, married Brett and is raising her four children whilst also being a High School Spanish teacher. Bec and her husband Dave moved to England, she became a decorator and continued raising her three kids.
Together, we started a cross-Atlantic “Thankfulness” group on WhatsApp and we are now into our fourth year. This group came about after reading Ann Voskamps ” A Thousand Gifts”- to be women living in eucharisteo. It’s a beautiful thing.
We then started a Bible in Year group, which helps with motivation if you are struggling to do it alone. This year has been chronological and is not my favourite way
And now we feel that Counting the Grains is an idea dropped on us by Holy Spirit, we were not looking for an idea or a next thing, but it just became, and so we are being obedient to the call.
It seems like we have followed a trajectory without even knowing it:
— Be [Trying to be] Thankful in all circumstances
— Know, learn , study the Word
— Hear His voice.
We are Moms (or “Mums”) thankful for Gods presence, His passions, His words, and for finding our joy, purpose and identity in Him.
I hear God a lot while ironing, driving or crafting. Sometimes it’s just a thought, and so i ponder the thought and it fills out and becomes something I know I need to share. Sometimes, a picture or one word flashes though my mind and if I start to share it, it becomes a sentence, a paragraph or whole picture.
Other times, I can be writing and words just seem to flow…. The hardest way for me is to sit still, but I’m trying! I find I enjoy conversations with my friends in the same way, walking, crafting , eating, but also going deep with them in a quiet space. So it is “both/and” . Since God is always speaking, no matter what we are doing, we should be able to plug in our antenna and hear what He is saying.
We all hear in different ways and capacities. I am confident that I am his sheep (John 10) and therefore I know his voice. Often times it does feel like a still small voice (1 Kings 19 KVJ), yet the more I lean in to listen, the clearer his voice becomes. His voice feels like a thought laced in love and wisdom. I find him most in the quiet pockets of my day. Clearing my mind with a journal or blank sheet of paper and just writing is how I like to connect most. While I pray (in the spirit especially), He speaks to me in words or pictures. Sometimes I have to ask questions to really understand. I have found that the more I’m in The Word, the more amplified his voice. There are times, however when I do feel stuck. When I do, I put on worship music or I seek him through praise and thanksgiving, because that is how we enter his gates (Psalm 104).
